I’ve heard a lot of good things in the blogosphere about products from Australian brand Aesop. I’ve had my eye on quite a few products on their website (including their “Post Poo Drops: An aromatic botanical bathroom deodoriser to combat the malodorous”, for Mr Juicy of course. I’m a lady. I don’t poo). Before I part with my hard earned cash though, I wanted to double check what Aesops policy was on animal testing.
Below is an exact copy of the email response I received from Aesop when I asked them some questions about animal testing.
“Thank you for your enquiry regarding Aesop's position on animal testing.
Aesop does not use any animal-derived ingredients or animal-produced ingredients (such as beeswax or honey) in our formulations. None of our finished products or the ingredients have been tested on animals.
All new ingredients are reviewed by our research and development team prior to use. We research the registration status of these ingredients in world markets, and note any past testing. It is an unfortunate fact that some of the ingredients used in our products were historically tested on animals since this was standard practice with some ingredient testing until approximately twenty years ago.
All new products are tested during our product development process for safety using cumulative irritancy testing on human volunteers. Before our products are released to the public, formulations are also assessed for safety by a qualified external agency - either a chemist or toxicologist. These agencies do not test on animals. Aesop is not available in mainland China.”
I think you’ll agree that this is a great response! It’s in depth, honest and and leaves no room for ambiguity. There’s no “Aesop is fully opposed to animal testing, however.....” type statements.
Roll on payday so I can buy that poo spray!

The bit about the poo drops made me giggle :) This is a great response, it's nice to see this from a company, it's a shame not every company will say the same thing. x
ReplyDeletePoo is funny at any age! x
DeleteYay I love Aesop. I asked in store when I bought some things if they were against animal testing and the sales girl gave me pretty much the exact same answer. Nice to know they take it seriously! xx
ReplyDeleteThat's so good that their sales assistants are clued up on that side of things. Most of them can pick out the perfect foundation for you but don't have a clue what's in their brands make-up or how its tested! x
DeleteGreat response! And poo spray? *chuckle*
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the no messing sound of poo spray! Not room spray or deodoriser. Straight to the point, someone's done a smelly poo-lets get rid of the smell-spray! x
